DUNGEONS& DRAGONS SHADOW OVER MYSTARA(PART OF CHRONICLES OF MYSTARA)

Platforms: XBOX 360/PS3/WIIU

Game Supports Spanish, French, German, Italian, and English text.

Audio Support English only.

Supports 1-4p offline and online coop.

Story: A Sorceress is trying to revive a fiend that can destroy Mystara and our heroes must stop before the fiend is revived.

Good or Bad Story?: This beat-em up does focus on its story and its a good 1. Its predictable, but even so its good. G00D!

Graphics: This game came out in the arcades in the 90s and playing it in 2013 on the current consoles the game’s visuals hold up very well. You have option to change the graphics filter and screen size.

Audio: The music is well done and the voice acting is good although there isn’t much to it.

Game play:

Good: D& D is a beat-em up rpg arcade game that feels like a fighting game that supports coop both online(drop-in/out) and offline with 4 people. The game includes 6 playable characters each with an alternate costume who you can name whatever you want and yes you can name them bad words. In combat you have close range attacks that can hit enemies standing in front of you, below the belt, use SF motions to use more attacks, and attack those that are lying on the floor. Each also has an inventory that gives them access to more attacks, but depends on the character and each character has a special attack that is powerful that requires health.

During fights enemies tend to drop items and you can pick them up to get points and other stuff. At the end of each level your character will level and gain something like an item or extra cash as well as take you to a shop to purchase items. Now another thing during levels you may get the option to select where to go next and the choices you make may take you to a shortcut of the level. Finally you can also select any level after you beat the game, you can also run away from fights, unlock stuff, and you will fight some tough bosses.

Bad: ?

Overall: D & D is a really good beat-em up that offers 6 playable characters that give the game variety of play styles. It is 1 of the best beat-em ups available now and is best played with friends as this game is not easy when you fight a boss. A must have.

Likes: Graphics, game play, music, and story.

Dislikes: ?

Wish list: Sequel.

Score: 5/5 AWESOME!

MIRROR’S EDGE REVIEW

NEWEST THREAT TO CHILDREN: RUNNING

DARKNOVAFORCE REVIEWS

MIRROR’S EDGE

Platforms: Xbox 360/PC/PS3

Game Supports Spanish, French, and English text.

Audio Support Spanish, French, and English.

Supports 1p only.

Played in Spanish.

Story: Faith a runner is trying to find out who set up her sister Kate who is now on the verge of being executed. She must find out quick or she will lose her only family member.

Good or Bad Story?: The story is not bad it’s not epic either, but it gets the job done. GOOD!

Graphics: The game looks really good especially the lighting and this game came out in 2008 and its visuals still hold to this day. The cut scenes in the game are all 2d and they look good as well. While the game looks realistic its actually cell shaded. However there is a bit of screen tearing.

Audio: The Spanish voice acting is really good, but at times the audio seems to be low even though my setting were on the highest. The music is so smooth. Note I’m not sure if this affects the English and French voice acting.

Game play:

Good: Mirror’s Edge is a First-person Adventure game that contains a lot running. When fighting enemies you have the option to use hand to hand combat, go guns blazing, and disarm your enemies. You can punch and kick any body part of your enemies. You can also attack doors. Disarming your enemies is done with a press of a button; however, you must time the button press or you’ll take damage from the enemy’s melee attack. Once the enemy is disarmed then you’ll acquire there weapon for your own use and if the others are dead the disarm button will allow you to pick the weapon off the ground; however, something’s that Faith can do will not be available if she holds a weapon. Faith can also slowdown time and perform slides that can help her when running, jumping, and fighting. Sliding also helps her vagina bag her enemies. Interacting with some objects just require Faith to just move towards them. The game also includes a hint button that points in the direction that you need to go if your lost. There is also plat forming, collectibles, unlockables, 1 boss fight, the ability to make a 180 turn when on the ground, and 90 turn when jumping. But this game’s key feature is mobility as you’ll mostly want to run when any enemy arrives as even though you’re a runner you’re not superhuman and the whole game revolves around running from something or to get somewhere.

Bad: The only thing I can consider bad is in each level there is a 5 second in game level loading.

Overall: Mirror’s Edge takes the style of A FPS, but doesn’t turn the game into a FPS instead it turns into a adventure game that is in first-person. The mobility makes the game intense as the game always wants you to feel like you’re in a chasing scene from a movie. I like the idea that developers took to make Mirror’s Edge, as the majority of games this generation are FPS I tend to stay away from them, but by taking a FPS approach and converting it to a more adventure style game it shows that a game in first-person doesn’t have to be shooter just because it’s in first-person. What it shows is; however, is that it can be something else and still be enjoyable and fresh. And I can’t wait to see what the next game will offer. A must have.

Likes: Graphics, music, voices, game play, and story.

Dislikes: Screen tearing and in game level loading.

Wish list: No in game level loading.

Score: 5/5 AWESOME!

INJUSTICE GODS AMONG US REVIEW

ACHOO! GOD BLESS YOU!

INJUSTICE GODS AMONG US

PLATFORMS: XBOX360/PS3/PS4/WIIU/PC/VITA

Game Supports: Russian, Polski, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and English text.

Audio Support: Portuguese, French, Spanish, German, and English.

Played in Portuguese.

Supports 1-2 local versus and 1-8 online versus.

Story: What would happen if the world’s greatest heroes become its greatest enemies?

Good or Bad Story?: The story is very similar to a certain episode of Justice League and feels like it is a lost episode of the TV show. While fighting games don’t tend to focus on stories this does have a lot of focus on its story and it answers everything like: Why can Batman survive Superman’s Super? GOOD!

Graphics: The game looks like an Xbox 1 game even thought its looks good I would have liked if the game had a different visual style.

Audio: The Portuguese voice acting is very good which includes actors from the Justice League TV show and movies. The game has music for each stage you fight in, but it’s not noticeable which is not good. Would have liked if they include the last dub for the game which is the Japanese dub.

Game play:

Good: The game is a 2.5D fighter where you can punch, kick, throw, jump, crouch, combo, use special moves, wake up, push block, block, ex moves, supers, combo break, and use the environment. You can select any character you like from the roster including Bruce Willis, Chyna, Kane, The Smoker, Robin Hood, and others. Injustice includes a great tutorial that can get you adjusted to the game’s mechanics. The game’s combo system is that of MK9’s where pressing certain buttons give you a combo and so is the super for each character by pressing the triggers. Each character has a certain ability like changing fighting styles or using a gadget. The environments play a huge role in combat as you can toss objects to your opponent or toss them to the objects in the background and if you can get your opponent to the corner and hit them with a back heavy attack then you will activate the stage transition, this will send your opponent to another stage while causing damage. Another great thing is the ability to use a combo breaker called wager, this will only work once you lose 1 life and if you use it then you and your opponent can bet meter to either gain health, do damage, or clash, but the 1 who uses the most meter will win. Injustice also has a good selection of modes for offline play which include arcade(many options included), local versus, training, story, tutorial, and Stars lab(mini-games and challenges). Also there is online play which includes versus(rank and player match), lobbies, king of the hill, and survivor. And you have the option to use either MK motion inputs or SF inputs and you can unlock costumes, art work, challenges, endings, and music.

Bad: Cancelling normals to specials has very strict timing so you have to be quick or it won’t work. Another thing is the motions for special moves performed during combos, when you do a combo and input the motion for a special move the game will give you the wrong move cause it will think the button that was pressed before is the same button for the special move like doing this l,l,m,v,>,h will become this l,l,m,v,>m. Injustice is 6 button fighter that uses light, medium, heavy, character trait, meter, and stance buttons; however, the stance button is useless and should have not been included. ¬†And for online the net code is not great as it has input delays, there is also no option to rematch online, you can’t see your opponent’s connection bar(unless you play survivor), you can’t decide not to fight certain players, no search options, and if your opponent rage quits then it counts as a lose for you and if you try to exit the character select screen online then it counts as a lost to you.

Overall: Injustice ended up being a fighter that I like. It also has the best story in a fighting game and plenty of offline options to choose along with online and will have dlc characters 1 of them being the Undertaker, but the net code needs improvements along with other things. This is a must have fighting game for 2013.

Likes: Graphics, game play, voices, single player content, online content, unlocks, tutorial, story.

Dislikes: Precise timing for normals to specials, music, net code, stance button, no rematch for online, penalty for the non-rage quitter, can’t decide to not fight certain players, no search options.

Wish list: Japanese dub, better net code, search options, better music, no stance button, penalty for rage quitters, decide who you can fight.

Score: 4/5 GOOD!
