RAIDEN FIGHTERS ACES REVIEW

  ACE UP MY SLEEVE

DARKNOVAFORCE Reviews

RAIDEN FIGHTERS ACES (1,2, & 3)

Platforms: Xbox 360

Game Supports English text only

Supports 1-2 coop offline and online

Story: Destroy the enemies defenses.

Good or Bad Story?: That’s all there is to a story in the game since it doesn’t focus on 1. NOT IMPORTANT!

Graphics: Raiden Fighters Aces looks like a SNES game and looks really good. The 3 games included have graphic filter options that allow the player to change the look of the game and change the screen size.

Audio: All 3 games have really good music for each of the levels you play through and the main menu.

Game play:

Good: Raiden Fighters Aces is a 2d shooter where you blast enemies to get powers-up and try to get to the boss at the end of each stage. You have a good selection of jets to play with on all 3 games with #3 having a playable rat that can fly which freaking amazing. You can play arcade, score, and training modes both offline and online. The game also empowers the player with the ability to select which order to play each level in 1 &2 as well as how many continues, and changing the difficulty can result in maybe just fighting bosses or go through each stage and then fight the bosses. In #3 the levels select works different as that game has a smart computer that will select levels based on how well you do in each level like if you do bad then the game will select easier levels, but if you do good then you will play harder levels.

Bad: ?

Overall: Raiden Fighters Aces is a really good collection that contains the first 3 games in the series. It empowers the player with many options of play which not many games do. This is a must have collection.

Likes: Music, game play, coop, and graphics.

Dislikes: ?

Wish list: Sequels.

Score: 5/5 AWESOME!

Recommended for fans of: Shooters, jets, arcade, rats, coop, bro-ops.

CAVE THE BEST REVIEW

OINK!

DARKNOVAFORCE Reviews

MUCHI MUCHI PORK

Part of CAVE THE BEST

Platforms: Xbox 360

Game Supports: Bilingual (some English and Japanese text)

Audio Support: Japanese only.

Supports 1-2 players offline

Story: Each character has their own opening and ending, but no real story is in the game and that’s not a bad thing as the type of game it is it doesn’t matter.

Graphics: The game looks like a SNES game and it looks good. You can change the wallpaper to another that is available, but the games menu could have had a better background.

Audio: The music is not bad and you can change the music for each stage from the original to the 360 version.

Game play:

Good: Muchi Muchi Pork is a 2d arcade shooter where you destroy everything that comes at you and save the pigs to gain more points. You have a normal beam which can be upgraded by getting power-ups and you have a bomb that is a giant robot that drills the enemies. You can play with 1 of 3 characters and each 1 is different. And you go through 5 levels where at the end you fight a boss and save replays.

Bad: The only thing I found to be bad is the background on the main menu.

Overall: Muchi is a really good game that offers 3 characters to play with and really good music to help you blast all of your enemies while trying to save those poor pigs.

Likes: Game play, music, robot, wallpapers, replays, and graphics.

Dislikes: Background for the main menu.

Wish list: Sequel.

Score: 5/5 AWESOME!

Recommended for fans of: Pigs, robots, shooters, coop, bro-ops, Cave, arcades.

THE POWER OF PINK

DARKNOVAFORCE Reviews

PINK SWEETS

Part of CAVE THE BEST

Game Supports: Bilingual (some English and Japanese text)

Audio Support: Japanese only.

Supports 1-2 players offline

Story: Each character is trying to save their mom, but must defeat all of the bad guys first just to do that.

Good or Bad Story?: The story is pretty much non-present except after a character clears a stage and at the ending. It’s not a bad thing as these types of games don’t really on them. NOT IMPORTANT!

Graphics: The game looks like a SNES game and it looks good. You can change the wallpaper to another that is available.

Audio: The music is not bad and you can change the music for each stage from the original to the 360 version.

Game play:

Good: Pink Sweets is a 2d shooter where you blast all your enemies through 7 levels and 4 playable characters (with their own weapons). You can power-up your weapon by getting power-ups that will give you support drones that can attack in any direction. When not firing you create a shield that is bomb that can absorb enemy bullets also you can change the speed of your character at anytime. And you can save replays.

Bad: ?

Overall: Pink Sweets is a really fun shooter and is my favorite game in Cave the best. This is a must have collection that will give you plenty of hours fun.

Likes: Graphics, game play, music, replay, and wallpapers.

Dislikes: ?

Wish list: Sequel.

Score: 5/5 AWESOME!

VAMPIRE SAVIOR REVIEW

WE ARE THE NIGHT WE ARE DARKSTALKERS

DARKNOVAFORCE REVIEWS

VAMPIRE SAVIOR (DARKSTALKERS 3)

Part of VAMPIRE RESSURECTION

Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/PS1/SATURN

Game Supports: Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Italian, and English text.

Audio Japanese only.

Supports 1-2 local versus and 8 in online lobbies.

STORY: This game has no story except endings for each character since in the 90s story wasn’t something necessary for a fighter. Is it a bad thing? No since the fighting is the most important aspect of this game.

GRAPHICS: The game looks really good even to this day and that’s all thanks to the filters that are available (crisp, sharp, and pixilation). The screen can be changed from full screen to an arcade cabinet. The characters still have the wacky animations when getting hit.

AUDIO: The voices are only in Japanese and they are good. Each character has their own theme that fits their stage which is really good.

GAMEPLAY:

GOOD: Vampire Savior is a fast-paced fighter that is similar to Street Fighter and the VS Capcom series in game play, but the cast of characters are from monster and fairytale movies. The game retains everything from Vampire Hunter which has normal, special, es(ex), and super moves. The motions in this game are the same as well and are a mix of Street fighter and Tekken. You have links, chains, cross-ups, and guard reversals at your disposal. However, this game has a new mechanic called the dark force which is a special ability that the character has and it’s timed so when using it make it count. This game also includes a tutorial. Online play is available and how smooth your experience is depends on both player’s pings, and all your online fights and local fights can be saved as replays that can be uploaded to YouTube. And you can unlock endings, art, and the original opening movie by earning vault points which you gain by playing the game.

BAD: There are still some crappy motions for some moves which have to be inputted perfectly or you will get the wrong move. Also the difficulty in arcade mode is off balance as at times it’s easy and other times it gets hard.

OVERALL: This is a really fun game to play either with friends or by yourself. And has really cool characters that you can play with. And between this and Vampire Hunter, Savior is the better game in my opinion in Resurrection. The only problems are the awkward motions for some of the special and super moves and unbalanced difficulty.

Likes: Graphics, music, game play, online, replays, wackiness, tutorial, unlocks.

Dislikes: Awkward motions for some of the moves, unbalanced difficulty.

Wish list: Make the awkward motions better, balance the difficulty, sequel.

Score: 4.5/5 REALLY GOOD!

Recommended for fans of: Vampire (Darkstalkers), Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, Blazblue, VS Capcom fighters, monsters, fairytales, Capcom, fighters, wackiness, Tom and Jerry.

VAMPIRE HUNTER (DARKSTALKERS THE NIGHT WARRIORS)

Part of VAMPIRE RESSURECTION

Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/PS1/SATURN

Game Supports: Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Italian, and English text.

Audio Japanese only.

Supports 1-2 local versus and 8 in online lobbies.

STORY: This game has no story except endings for each character when playing arcade mode. This is how fighters were back then and it’s not important to have a story, because it’s all about fighting.

Graphics: The graphics in this game are not bad, but there are other rereleased fighters that look better like MVCO. The good thing is there are options to change the graphics through filters which can make the game look crisp, sharp, pixilated, or have scan lines which will give it the arcade cabinet look. The screen can be changed as well to either fill the entire screen or see the arcade cabinet itself. Characters have wacky hit animations similar to Tom and Jerry.

Audio: The voice acting is good. Each character has a theme that really suits them and their stage. The music is like jazz.

Game play:

Good: Vampire Hunter is a fast-paced fighter that is similar to Street Fighter and the VS Capcom series in game play, but the cast of characters are from monster and fairytale movies. There are normal, special, es(ex), and super moves, but the motions in this game are a mix of Street fighter and Tekken. You have links, chains, cross-ups, and guard reversals at your disposal. NINJA BLADE REVIEW

ITS NINJA TIME

DARKNOVAFORCE Reviews

NINJA BLADE

Platforms: Xbox 360/PC

Game supports English, Japanese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, French, Italian, and German text.

Audio support: English only and Bilingual(English and some Japanese)

Played the game in Bilingual.
Story: In 2015, a small village was attacked by unknown creatures and the survivors were moved to a research facility where they underwent examination. While at the research facility, the survivors began to show symptoms of necrotizing fasciitis it was found out they are infected by a strange type of hookworm parasite, which was classified as “Alpha-worm”. Conventional medicine had no effects on the patients and the worms deformed the victims, but the infection increased the strength and resilience of the people infected. The infected eventually broke free and attacked the researchers and, due to a fear of an outbreak, the military assaulted the facility and destroyed all traces of the infected. To prevent panic, governments of the world kept the Alpha-worms secret. The G.U.I.D.E (Global United Infestation Detection and Elimination) force was formed by Agent Michael Wilson, recruiting elite operatives from around the world. Eventually, after a massive outbreak of Alpha-worm infestation takes over the city of Tokyo, an elite ninja team including the young Ken Ogawa, and led by his father Kanbe, is sent to deal with the situation.

Good or Bad Story?: The story is well done and the dialog that comes from the characters is well written it makes it feel like it should be a movie. GOOD!

Graphics: This game was released in 2009 and playing it in 2013 it still looks really good. The game has good character design and levels, but only the main character is the part of the cast I wished looked better cause he looks average at best, but luckily his costume can be changed to different colors which helps make him not look average.

Audio: Music is not bad it has the feel of an action movie. The voiceover options are strange. The reason is you have 2 options 1. English only and 2. Bilingual? We all know what bilingual is, but I find that odd cause most of the characters will speak English, but some will speak Japanese only or at times some of the dialog will be in Japanese while the rest is English. Why couldn’t they include a full Japanese dub along with other dubs. But I still like it.

Game play:

Good: Ninja Blade is a hack and slash action game that doesn’t take too long to get in to the action. You start with 1 weapon and get more later on with each having combos and a finisher. There is even a ninja vision that slows down time. A ninja run that allows the character to move faster. The game allows you to explore the levels to find power-ups to upgrade you health and ninja vision meter and even some unlockables. The game has plenty of boss fights. It also has plenty of QTEs. The QTEs add a bit more sense of interaction to the game from avoiding damage to deal a free hit to a boss.

Bad: I experienced a few frame drops. At half-way through the 1st level I experienced a glitch that kept a QTE from appearing causing me not to move on to the next part of the level. It happened a lot in that 1 part, but it went away when I restarted the game. Another issue I found was in the boss fights not all but some. On every boss the game auto locks the camera to the boss, but on some the camera would pull itself far away to the point where I couldn’t tell if got close to the boss to land a hit or when a boss launched a fireball kind of attack I couldn’t tell if it was very close to parry it or still a bit far from the character. And 1 last thing I didn’t like when playing was the save system. The save system is the same as dmc1-4 where if you save at any point in game like half-way to a level and then decide to go back to the dashboard to play the game later, when you load the game again the game will make you start from the beginning of the level not at the part where you left off. This will also not save any upgrades and orbs you collected meaning you will have to regain your orbs and upgrades again. I would have liked a checkpoint system implemented.

Overall: The story kept me interested from the start all the way to the end. The game play is satisfying even though there are few frame drops. The voice acting is really good. The camera could have been better in some boss fights. But the game is really good despite having some flaws.

Likes: combat, unlockables, color switching the costume. voice acting, boss fights, exploration, story, QTE.

Major Dislikes: Camera in some boss fights, annoying glitch, save system

Minor dislikes: Main character design.

Wish list: new entry in the series, better camera, better save system.

4.5/5 REALLY GOOD!

Recommended for fans of: action, adventure, ninjas, tmnt, and from software.

BLACK DRAGON REVIEW

I HAVE THE POWER

DARKNOVAFORCE Reviews

Black Dragon(BLACK TIGER)

Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3

Game supports English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Italian, and German text.

Story: Move through a dungeon to reach a castle and kill the dragon.

Good or Bad Story?: Its basic and easy to know what will happen at the end. GOOD!

Graphics: The graphics are 8-bit since this game came out in the 80’s, but it still looks good today. However the graphics can be adjusted to make the game look closer to what arcade games looked like on a arcade cabinet in the past like adding scan lines or changing the size of the screen. There is even an option to change the wallpaper in the background with some that are unlocked by doing things in the game.

Audio: Music sounds like it was taken from a cartoonish horror film or from Scooby doo. It’s really good theme that goes well when playing this game.

Game play:

Good: It is a challenging game where you must avoid damage or you will have a hard time beating the game. Has additional modes for play. You can use your mace that has long reach and throws projectiles or use your magic that causes more damage but you lose health to use it. Upgrades are available only when a certain old man on each stage is rescued who will offer you more armor, keys to unlock chest, weapon upgrades, or more life which you can use your point to purchase. There are secret dungeons and boss fights on each level.

Bad: The jumping is clunky. You may fall and lose a life or may have a hard time jumping to another platform above you. Jumping is very important since that is how you will reach the end of a stage and get to fight the boss, it’s very unfortunate that it’s not really good.

Overall: The game is challenging with more modes that will give you more ways to play with a great theme, but the jump that the character has is not great especially when it’s important to the game.

Note the game is free when downloading Capcom arcade cabinet on PSN and XBLA, the only difference is the PSN version gives you unlimited credits while the xbla version gives you 3 unless you buy the discounted pack1.

Likes: Combat, graphics, music, power-ups, and more modes.

Dislikes: Clunky jump.

Wish list: Better jump, sequel.

Score: 4.5/5 REALLY GOOD!

Recommended for fans of: Adventure,  old school gamers, ghosts and goblins, capcom, gamers who want a challenge from an old game.

AVENGER REVIEW

DICKPUNCH

DARKNOVAFORCE Reviews

Avenger

Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3

Game supports English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Italian, and German text.

Supports 1-2p coop local and online

Story: Shao Khan look-a-like has taken some women hostage and it’s up to you to kick/punch your way to save the girls and get rid of the bad guy for good.

Good or Bad Story?: Its really basic but it’s not important at all to these kind of games(beat-em ups) and that’s not a bad thing since you won’t play for the story. NOT IMPORTANT!

Audio: The music is not bad and fits the game well. It seems to be jazz music.

Game play:

Good:  This game is challenging(difficulty can be changed) and is viewed from a bird’s eye view and this allows for a smoother way to control the character’s movements for a kind-of pre-3d experience. You can punch and kick your foes along with using a special move that will lower your health, but helps you stay clear of too many enemies coming at you. Along the way you can destroy some blue trashcans that will hold power-ups that can aid you in battle. There are secret areas hidden in the game and a boss fight at the end of each level and additional modes.

Bad: While I found things I like there are things I don’t like. The punches that the character does are not really great using on bosses and are only good on minions; however, this makes you want to use the kick button for the majority since it does a better job at beating every enemy you fight. Another thing the character can get stuck in some fights like the 2nd boss fight, where I tried to attack the boss and eventually the character stayed attach to the boss and allowed him to beat me up since the character can’t do anything at that moment. And once you lose all your lives that come with 1 credit against a boss and decide to continue the boss fight the game will make you start not at the fight with the boss but around half-way the level or so before the boss fight. I would have liked if the game would have allowed me to respawn at the boss fight and not having to fight my way again to reach the boss at the end of a level.

Overall: I really enjoyed this different style of a beat-em up and what it offers, but would have wished that something’s like the respawning system was better.

Likes: Combat, graphics, music, power-ups, and more modes.

Dislikes: Punches are not that great, being stuck to an enemy, checkpoints.

Wish list: Better checkpoints, sequel, make punches better.

Score: 4.5/5 REALLY GOOD!

Recommended for fans of: Beat-em ups, fighting games, old school gamers, coop, broops,  capcom.
